About Town

03.05.13 – 04.20.13: New Practices New York 2012 winner Christian Wassman’s “5 Plantonic Objects” will be on view at R 20th Century Gallery in Tribeca. The exhibition will feature objects, furniture, and drawings inspired by five unique geometric forms, the platonic solids.

Through 03.10.13: The winning design of the 2013 Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition, by Brooklyn-based firm Situ Studio, is on display. The design incorporates boards salvaged from New York and New Jersey boardwalks in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Through 05.05.13: Currently on view at the National Academy Museum is “Seismic Shifts: 10 Visionaries in Contemporary Art and Architecture,” including works by Kate Orff, ASLA, Greg Lynn, and Moshe Safdie, FAIA.

Through 09.13: The Museum of the City of New York is hosting the exhibition “Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers,” curated by Donald Albrecht. It includes a full-sized, 325-square-foot studio apartment designed by Amie Gross Architects, and the winning designs from the Bloomberg administration’s recently launched pilot competition to test new housing models. The winning project, called “My Micro NY,” is the result of a collaboration between nARCHITECTS with Monadnock Construction and the Actors Fund Housing Development Corporation.
