Opening 06.25.14: The William Holman Gallery, 65 Ludlow Street, presents “Gatekeeper,” a group show curated by Nicholas Cohn and Katie White, featuring three artists whose work explores ideas of access and barriers to entry. Inspired by Martin Heidegger’s essay “Building, Dwelling, Thinking,” the exhibition offers interpretations of how spaces enforce or challenge gender roles, ethnic discrimination, and economic inequality.
Opening 06.27.14: The Whitney Museum of American Art, 945 Madison Avenue, presents “Jeff Koons: A Retrospective.” The exhibition is the artist’s first major museum presentation in New York, and the first to fill nearly the entire Marcel Breuer-designed building with a single artist’s work. It is the last exhibition before the museum opens its new Renzo Piano Building Workshop-designed building in spring 2015. The artist’s flowering sculpture “Split-Rocker” will debut at Rockefeller Center to coincide with the opening.
