Opening 05.16.14: “Making It in New York City: The Era of New Manufacturing” at the Brooklyn Navy Yard BLDG 92 celebrates the New York Makers Movement past, present, and future. The multimedia exhibition is divided into five industry groups – Energy & Resiliency, Furnishing & Home Goods, Tech & Media, Building & Construction, Fashion & Apparel – and features the contributions of 30 New York businesses.

Through 05.20.14: AIGA/NY’s exhibition “Making Place” at Industry City, features the results of the Design/Relief creative placemaking initiative. Three teams working in the waterfront neighborhoods of Red Hook, Rockaway and South Street Seaport created participatory design projects to aid those communities in imagining a more vibrant future as they struggle to overcome the lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Through 08.03.14: “In a World of Their Own: Coney Island Photographs by Aaron Rose, 1961-1963” at the Museum of the City of New York is the first exhibition of Rose’s images of sunbathers and swimmers on New York City’s most famous beach. Rose’s photographs showcase the rich mix of races, ethnicities, sexualities, and body types on display on the sandy landscape of Coney Island, described by noted photography critic Vince Aletti as a “place where privacy is a state of mind.”
