04.16.13: The United Nations Security Council Chamber was officially re-opened with a special ceremony. Located in the United Nations Conference Building and designed by Norwegian architect Arnstein Arneberg – with murals by Norwegian artist Per Krohg and Damask wallpaper designed by Norway’s Else Poulsson – it is considered “the most important room in the world.” Read UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s remarks here. Sopheap Pich’s “Compound” is an enormous installation comprised of eighty-three bamboo and rattan grids and cylindrical modules.

03.22.13: The Post-Sandy Regional Working Group has its inaugural meeting at the 2013 AIA Grassroots Conference in Washington, DC. Representatives from New York, New Jersey, and New England came together to share knowledge and initiate a cooperative exchange for the region. Regional Directors of Young Architects Forum, AIA State and Chapter presidents, policy coordinators, AIA National staff, and regional Chapter executive directors contributed to the meeting. Through 03.31.13: The William Holman Gallery presents a large solo exhibition of recent work by Tom Judd. The exhibition features drawings and paintings on canvas that explore the relationship between the modern architecture of Judd’s childhood, including the pink house he grew up in near Salt Late City, and other abandoned modern relics, such as 20th-century houses by Marcel Breuer, Mies van der Rohe, and Richard Neutra. View a catalogue of Judd’s work and a documentary video, titled “Tom Judd Remembers the Future.”
