Center at Work!

As we continue to grow into New York City’s premier cultural venue for architecture and the built environment, this summer we are embarking on an ambitious renovation project. We will be completing phase two of our audio/visual upgrade, reconfiguring the Common Room and optimizing the space for new A/V capabilities, and replacing the Center’s floors with terrazzo.

The Center for Architecture will be renovating from July 1 through September 1. During this time, no exhibitions will be on view, but the space will mainly remain open for programing and events. We expect to close the Center completely for one week while we replace the floors. Our first exhibition following the renovations will be Un/fair Use, opening September 10, which will explore issues of copying and copyright in architecture.

In the meantime, stay tuned for exciting Center activities around the city during the summer!

Annual Meeting 2015: A Presidential Outlook

The AIANY Annual Meeting is a chance for members to come together and take care of business, voting on proposed bylaw amendments and confirming the following year’s leadership. This year, the Chapter voted in favor of creating a new board position, Director for Sustainability, which will be held by Laurie Kerr, FAIA, LEED AP, of the Urban Green Council. The meeting is also an opportunity to celebrate the progress and direction of the Chapter. AIANY President Tomas Rossant, AIA, also took advantage of this year’s meeting on 06.16.15 to speak truthfully to the audience about the future of the AIANY and the Center for Architecture. Announcing the New York Architecture Diary!

We are pleased to announce the launch of the New York Architecture Diary, a go-to resource for all things architecture taking place in New York City! The Diary is meant to make visible the vibrant programming found across the five boroughs on a comprehensive and independent platform. It lists information for talks, conferences, walks, exhibitions, tours, film screenings, and other activities related to architecture and its allied disciplines. Explore the site today!

The New York Architecture Diary is a sister site to the London Architecture Diary, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, and is managed by a consortium of institutions and schools of architecture. The creation of the New York Architecture Diary was made possible by a grant from the New York State Department of Economic Development’s (NYSDED) Division of Tourism and with institutional support from The Architectural League of New York.
