About Town

Vision 42
The Lobby Gallery, 4 Times Square at 42nd Street
Through 01.05.15

vision42design is an international ideas competition that challenged participants to rethink and redesign one of the most iconic streets in the world – 42nd Street in Midtown Manhattan. Its aim is to gain support for the vision42 initiative, which calls for a river-to-river, auto-free, light rail boulevard on 42nd Street by encouraging architects, planners, and urban designers to remake this important but congested street into a world-class pedestrian environment and public space. The exhibition includes the proposals by the four winning entries (see In The News).

Uneven Growth: Tactical Urbanisms for Expanding Megacities
Museum of Modern Art
Through 05.10.15

“Uneven Growth” examines new architectural possibilities that address the rapid and uneven growth of six global metropolises – Hong Kong, Istanbul, Lagos, Mumbai, New York, and Rio de Janeiro. Following the same model as “Rising Currents,” six interdisciplinary teams of researchers and practitioners developed proposals for a specific city in a series of workshops that occurred over 14 months.
