Please join us next week on 02.13.14 at 6:00 PM for the opening of “Considering the Quake: Seismic Design on Edge.” Curated by Professor Ghyslaine McClure and Dr. Effie Bouras of the McGill University Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics, the exhibition explores the elegant, and oftentimes elusive, intersection between architectural design and the technicality of structural engineering. Envisioned as a “science center” for design, “Considering the Quake” will feature full-sized seismic technology, architectural and structural models, seismic testing videos, and even a shake table.

The exhibition will also be complimented by a series of programs organized by the AIANY Design for Risk and Reconstruction Committee and the AIANY. Check our online calendar for upcoming quake events!

In addition, don’t forget to submit your recommendations for the AIANY College of Fellows (deadline February 20, 5:00 PM) and the AIANY Nominating Committee (deadline February 28, 5:00 PM).

AIA, LEED AP, of Highland Associates, received the 2014 AIA Associate Award… Illya Azaroff, AIA, of +LAB Architects, received the 2014 AIA Young Architect Award…The winners of Contract magazine’s 2014 Interiors Awards include Krista Ninivaggi, Director of Interiors at SHoP Architects (Designer of the Year); BBDO by HLW (Office: Large); and the Federal Center South Building 1201 by ZGF Architects (Sustainable)… The National Academy will honor Diller Scofidio + Renfro with the Lifetime Achievement Award at its 2014 Gala…The New York School of Interior design will honor Mariette Himes Gomez with the Albert Hadley Lifetime Achievement Award, and Charles Jencks with the Thomas N. Due to the inclement weather, yesterday’s program “(Re)Orientation: Global Campus” has been postponed until 02.03.14. Award winners will be recognized at the AIANY Honors and Awards Luncheon at Cipriani Wall Street on 04.23.14. Winning projects will also be featured in the Summer 2014 issue of Oculus magazine, and in the Center for Architecture’s Design Awards exhibition, opening 04.24.14.
