Daria Pizzetta, FAIA, Principal, H³ Hardy Collaboration Architecture, has had a leading role in shaping the evolution of library design nationally, as well as the discourse about the design of major public buildings and arts institutions. Pizzetta’s practice has incorporated a strong emphasis on programmatic needs to develop civic and academic buildings that are right-sized, flexible and adaptable for community use. Her library buildings emphasize the need for the building to be designed “from the inside, out” to accommodate the variety of materials and technology housed within modern library structures, while her performing arts and museum projects consider performance and exhibition needs specific to each institution. Kevin Hom, FAIA, LEED AP, President, Kevin Hom Architects, has reinvented the architecture program at CUNY’s School of Technology and Design, where he serves as Dean, developing a dynamic, sustainability-focused and technology-based model for preparing disadvantaged students to enter and bring diversity to the profession. Appointed Dean of the School in 2011, Hom has, in just five years, effected sweeping changes that have turned the School into an incubator and catalyst for new approaches to architectural education and for increased diversity in the profession. As a global designer, educator, and mentor, Gary Haney, FAIA, RIBA, Design Partner, SOM, has pioneered engineering innovations, tall building efficiency, materials research, and customized sustainable solutions for some 60 projects throughout the world. Many of these projects have won awards and received high acclaim from professionals, peers, and city residents alike. Haney’s Al Hamra Firdous Tower won AIA and international design awards, and it was also named one of “The 50 Best Inventions of the Year” by Time magazine in 2011. Thomas Grassi, FAIA, PMP, Senior Project Manager, Infrastructure and Transportation Architecture Architecture Department, HNTB Corporation, has devoted his career to being a manager for transformative regional transportation projects, a leader rebuilding Lower Manhattan and World Trade Center transportation infrastructure, and an ambassador sharing the story of architecture’s healing power. Grassi helped to lead Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ)’s Downtown Restoration Program following the events of 9/11, and went on to manage and coordinate the design and construction of of the iconic WTC Transportation Hub. In recognition, Grassi was a recipient of AIA’s “Architects of Healing” Presidential Citation.
