Spencer Finch: The River that Flows Both Ways

Rendering for Spencer Finch’s The River That Flows Both Ways, 2008.

Courtesy Friends of the High Line

This inaugural art commission for the opening of the first section of the High Line was inspired by the light and the water of the Hudson River. An installation of windows with 700 individually crafted panes of glass represents the river over a period of 700 minutes on a single day.

World Trade Center Transportation Hub, NYC, Santiago Calatrava.

Courtesy of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

Since 2004 when he unveiled his plans for the World Trade Center transportation hub, Santiago Calatrava has adjusted the design to save time and money while preserving the overall integrity of the original design. On view are architectural models along with a multimedia presentation that reinforces the evocative image of “a bird being released from a child’s hand.”
